Program Manager GreenWorks & Schools Audit Programs

Tom has worked with SustainAbility Advice Team for the last 5 years and is the Manager for SustainAbility Advice Teams’ Commercial auditing program, “GreenWorks”. He has a BA in Environmental Geography from UWA and a Grad Dip Education from ECU. He has a background in Education as a former mathematics teacher and has always maintained an interest in environmental issues, particularly to do with solar passive design.

In the early 1990’s he built an extension to his home based on passive solar principles and ran a consultancy for home owners called Home Power Saver. Tom trained as an HEAT auditor and has done well over 300 audits.  These include a variety of clients, ranging from homes and small businesses up to apartment blocks and large public buildings such as the ACT Law Courts. He also worked on implementing the OSCAR (Online System for Comprehensive Activity Reporting) program with the ACT Government.

Tom has completed the Renewable Energy Systems course at TAFE, HIA’s Green Smart course and was an accredited Home Sustainability Assessor and Trainer for the Green Loans scheme. He is currently finishing a program with the ACT government to perform energy audits and report on all the Territory’s schools.

More recently, SustainAbility Advice Team auditors, including Tom, are undergoing their NABERS Certification. NABERS (the National Australian Built Environment Rating System) is a performance-based rating system for existing buildings. NABERS rates a commercial office, hotel or residentialĀ building on the basis of its measured operational impacts on the environment.
